Creating a corner of calm

When things feel a little chaotic creating a clear and un-cluttered space can work wonders…

My house is half finished. Since we moved in over a year ago we’ve tackled a couple of rooms but as life’s gotten busier it’s been difficult to knuckle down and get everything how we’d like it. Full disclosure – the house isn’t in a bad state of repair, the issue is more that I have lots of plans and ideas but not the time to act on them right now.

Sometimes the sheer amount of things we haven’t got around to doing in the house can make it feel like we haven’t done anything at all. This train of thought appears quite regularly in different areas of my life. Friends I feel I don’t see enough, relatives I want to do more for, work projects I’d like more time to complete… you get the picture. There just doesn’t seem to be the time to do everything as well as I’d like to.

So, what to do when it all feels to big to tackle? Break. it. down.

Rather than beating myself up for all the decorating, organising and minimising I couldn’t do I took one small corner of my bedroom and made it better. A former dumping ground strewn with clothes that no longer fit me, a bag of stuff I’d removed from my car when I sold it two months ago and piles of laundry became a tidy area I made my own and it really didn’t take that long to do.

A few trinkets from Primark and a little bit of time and I had a little corner of calm. It felt great and shifted the focus from the stuff I hadn’t done to something I had achieved.

I picked up this cute frame from Primark and I can’t wait to fill it with photos of family and friends

This corner of my bedroom had become my favourite dumping ground. Now clean and clutter-free the mess in other areas of the house doesn’t bother me so much

So there you have it. The little things really do make a difference. Just need to remember this the next time every single room in the house is in chaos! Break. it. down.
